Wearing Bonnets In Public

Occasionally, folks from Boomer and Gen X stand in judgement

when we see members from millennials onwards wearing bonnets in public.  It is the equivalent of crushing our toes, slapping us in the face or driving fast through a huge rain puddle while passing us on the roadway!

People with 4C super curly hair started wearing silk hair bonnets to protect their hair while

sleeping.  I feel that in the past, there was no pressure to do this because styles were simpler and there were no social media to pit one against the world.  Since magazines were published periodically, people could be themselves.  However, if we think back, we have always had people who did not follow the hair rules e.g.:

•  Hippies 
• Goth
• Bohemians

In the super curly hair community, these people were the ones that wore:

• Rollers while out on the street
• Colored their hair any color but black
• Those who wore dreads/locs
• Shaved their heads, just because
• asymmetric haircuts
