In any type of work that you are providing a service, you
expect to complete it within a set time frame. If you have a bakery, for example, you know how long baking a certain cake takes. Icing it will take a certain time also. In the end, you will have a standard time that action takes to complete and any time you go outside that slated time, chaos! This is the same for services in a hair salon.
There are times when we get a lot of calls for certain services
that we have to turn down. The most common are:
- Dreadlocks removal
- Braids
- Braid removal
- Knots in hair
These services are refused mostly because you cannot finish them within a set time frame.
Take dreadlocks removal for example. These locs have been on your head for five years and you decide you want to comb them out. The locs reach you in the middle of your back and over the years you have used various methods for maintenance. There is no possible way for us to say this will take three days or three weeks. No salon that has a clientele can commit to that kind of time unless you agree to cover rent, food and vacation time.
For the other removal services like braids, it can take a whole
day, maybe two. I have taken a day to help someone remove micro braids. This happened once and I have never agreed to do that again. I advise people with them to gather all their friends; give everyone a section of your head to work in and provide food and drinks!
Every service can usually be completed within a set time frame. There will be instances that it can take a longer or shorter time. The important thing to remember is that we have to manage time so we can satisfy all our other clients.
