If you are considering installing dreads/locs, you might be wondering

how to make loc extensions look natural.  The worst thing that can happen with an extension is others being able to tell you have them!

Things to look for when buying loc extensions:

  • Does the hair look similar to yours when it is twisted?
  • If the extension looks frizzy, there is a good chance it will happen in future.
  • If your hair is frizzy, do not get straight-hair extensions.
  • If your hair tends to be dry, softer extensions will look odd as the hair ages.
  • Some extensions are marketed as human hair but include a lot of fibre which tends to break or snag easily.
  • The point where the extension is added should be gradual, not even, so there is not a noticeable line.

Other things that help with how to make loc extensions look natural:

  1. Research a stylist/loctician that does work that you like.
  2. Look for dread/loc extensions that are well made and similar in texture as your hair.
  3. Buy hair accessories e.g. bonnet or silk pillow case.
  4. Have your hair maintained regularly so it does not get messy because the extension will look great but your hair sucks.
