If you have had the same hairstyle for a long time, this post might be reaching

you at a point when you want change!  Unfortunately, a lot of people only do this after a significant event in their life such as a breakup or sickness!

I realize most people who have had the same hairstyle for a long time do so for a variety

of reasons, including:

  • Confidence  – this hairstyle suits you and people like it.
  • Comfort – It is so much easier to just repeat the same actions every day
  • Cowlicks/hair density – This way lets you cover areas that may not accentuate your look e.g a cowlick that lets your hair stand or on one side of your head the hair is thinner.
  • Fear that changing will trigger anger in a partner, anxiety or unwanted attention.

How can you change your look if you have had the same hairstyle for a long time?  You can do

so by making subtle changes:

  1. Experiment by changing the area you part, put the part at an angle instead of straight.
  2. Try layering your hair if you always do a blunt cut.
  3. Leave your hair down instead of only in a ponytail.
  4. Wear your curls instead of straightening it with chemicals or hot irons.
  5. If you do not get used to making small changes, major changes affect you for longer times than necessary.

Changing behaviour is effortful.  You have to repeat the change for at least three weeks for your brain to normalize it.  So many times I see people whose hair has a permanent line in the top that has to be left down because the hair around it is too thin to cover.  You may have had the same hairstyle for a long time but little changes make a difference in the long term.
