Younger people would be more mindful of the things they are doing to
themselves if they ever had to provide hair services for older women. Today, certain requirements to achieve a look involve work that I see leaving them with a lot less hair than their parents and grandparents in the future!
I look at social media today and marvel at the things younger
people are doing for a picture in time. In a few cases, it is for building their business but mostly it’s not. I have had the opportunity to work with mature women and I think these young people will use more hair enhancements if they reach those golden years.

Hair services for older women (and sometimes men) involve a lot of navigating issues that develop
with aging. They include:
- Lifestyle will play a large part in how much of your real hair is left on your head past age 40.
- Health issues e.g. develop from medications that change the hair, treatments that affect the texture or limit the growth.
- Physical challenges e.g. client unable to lay back for long periods; repetitive strain injuries perhaps from extended posing.
- Mobility issues e.g. accommodating wheelchair bound/house bound clients.

- Many mature women have to rethink the type of foods they eat.
- Genetics – certain issues like receding hairlines are in the DNA.
- Thinning happening because of hormonal changes.
- The texture of your hair will change when it becomes gray. It can be coarse or wiry or decide frizzy is the new normal.
- In the more severe cases, there is hair loss.
Hair services for older women involve meeting you where you are in your hair journey. There is no one size fits all. Each person may have one or more experiences and I find asking questions gives more information on that because loss of memory is also another area we want to limit but it happens. Take care of your future hair.
