Many people calling for information on loc retwists usually ask “what does
loc maintenance include”. Contrary to belief, if you have dreads/locs, it is necessary to have them cleaned up and the roots tightened unless you prefer freeform. This can be done monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly depending on the method used. Whatever the method, the work done will vary based on who provides the service!
This is a checklist of what we do for loc maintenance, but some of the stages can differ based on what
type of work is needed:
- Washing of the dreads/locs
- Crochet or Palm Roll of each dread/loc
- Repair of a dread/loc (including areas with thinning, frizz, breakage, resizing etc.
- Add-on services:
- Apple Cider Vinegar Wash
- Styling

You will get different answers when you ask “what does loc maintenance include”. This is our checklist at the salon. Certain steps we skip e.g. if you come with your hair already washed. However, it will be properly washed if there is gunk which shows when the hair is twisted during the tightening.
