It turned out that this summer we should have been preparing for and

understanding unpredictable weather.  No one wants to get dressed up for an important occasion only to have it destroyed by sudden changes in weather!

Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa have had some extremes of hot and sometimes cold over

the years – this one had flooding.  I watched footage of water and wind slapping and shoving people as they ran for cover this July 1.  Fortunately, I missed the excitement because I decided to stroll downtown in the evening.

For those who do not have curly hair, please understand the depths of anger and

frustration we feel when rain catches our hair, because:

  • We most likely spend 2-3 hours at a salon or 3-4 doing our hair by ourselves.
  • At the first whiff of humidity, even a tiny bit, those strands around the hairline will form little tress fists that you cannot undo without another round of blowdrying.
  • Only the gods can help you if you are one of those people that sweat inside your head because all your roots are an afro now with straight strands sticking from them.
  • After all that work, time and money, a ponytail or gel down are your likely options.

If you have an important occasion, preparing for and understanding unpredictable weather

is very important.  As a safety plan, please have:

  • Another hairstyle in mind, just in case something goes wrong.
  • Large Umbrellas or a plastic bag nearby to shield you from the elements.
  • Hair products and pins for the transformation.
  • Someone or yourself who can whip up the new hairdo.
  • A wig or other form of extension that can help make the change easier.

If you make plans for emergencies, you will not find difficulty preparing for and understanding unpredictable weather.
