You may have been sailing happily along on your dread/loc journey

but now have dreadlocks thinning the hairline.  This does not happen to everyone, but it happens to many over time.

If dreadlocks are tinning your hairline, there are a few reasons this is happening:

(a) When the dread/locs were done at the beginning:

    • the partings were small
    • the hair was short
    • maintenance was not done regularly
    • Hairstyles are kept in for too long.

(b) The person doing the maintenance lacks the proper knowledge to know:

    • when the hair is pulled too tightly
    • at what point the root of the dread/loc is too thin to continue
    • if the dread/loc should be attached to one nearby to save it
    • the dread/loc is now too long for the amount of hair at the roots.

Usually dreadlocks thinning hairline can be corrected by:

  1. attaching two or more to make the root area larger
  2. when retwisting the roots, the hair should not be pulled tightly such as done with the interlocking method
  3. Retwisting should be done within two months to keep them close to the root area
  4. When the hair is styled, it should be removed in three days and rolled when removed.

A dreadlocks thinning hairline can be corrected if the client or loctician acts quickly and ensures it does not spread to the rest of the head.
