A few times in the salon, you may have people who try to hide information

about their hair and you are left wondering “why are you hiding the truth?”  As adults, I hope a hair appointment will not make you so scared you need to lie  or  feel that the service you want will be refused!

My clients will tell you,  I will joke around but If I notice an issue

with your hair or feel what you want is not feasible, I will say.  A guy once told me, when I ask questions, it can feel like an interrogation.  If the person feels my questions are too personal, I say why.  The reasonable ones do eventually admit they are having and/or avoiding issues for a long period of time.

However, there are new clients who may ask for a service and though you ask the right questions

during the consultation, they will still  hide things.  One such client swore that her hair was natural when she asked for a chemical service.  She said her hair was naturally like that and because some 4C hair presents as an underprocessed straightener, as a new “green” stylist, I chose to believe her.  Several complimentary conditioning treatments later, I was chatting with the person that referred her and she inadvertently let me know that the lady always relaxed her hair every month. The client told me her hair had been natural for a year.  The hair was saved but I followed my instincts after that.

With grown clients you may wonder “why are you hiding the truth?”  but everyone has some motivation like wanting the style immediately although their hair is unfit to do so.  In other fields, such as medicine, hiding information could be fatal.   Letting the stylist know what has been done to your hair saves you from hair loss and time waiting for it to grow back.
